Guiding Principles: Middle School Athletics
At Newtown Middle School we believe in providing all young adolescents with opportunities to participate, develop skill levels, and experience positive outcomes that result from well planned, developmentally responsive sports programs. Middle level athletics are vital in broadening their education in areas of physical fitness, sportsmanship, leadership, citizenship and participation in activities which will contribute to their overall well being.
All Middle level students should be afforded opportunities to participate in interscholastic or intramural athletics.
The primary goals of Middle School athletics should be enjoyment, sportsmanship, fair play and the teaching and learning of fundamentals, winning should be secondary.
We will promote life skills such as leadership, commitment, unselfishness, respect, and dedication.
We encourage young adolescents to explore various sports rather than specialize in one.
